Ocimum tenuiflorum, or Krishna holy basil, is a tropical herbaceous perennial of the Lamiaceae (mint) family, with purple stems and leaves maturing to magenta. A cultivar of tulsi and cousin to sweet basil, it is widely cultivated in India and used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. It has a crisp, peppery flavor with notes of peppermint, cloves, licorice, and lemon.
