Angelica archangelica, a member of the Apiaceae family, thrives in northern latitudes across Asia, Europe, and parts of the United States, favoring damp soil near running water and woodland edges. Its aromatic roots have a spicy, bitter, and warming flavor and are used to make teas, tinctures, and as a flavoring in liquors.

A close relative of dong-quai, angelica is a graceful flowering plant related to carrots, dill, and fennel. It grows in diverse regions, from Nunavut and Lapland in the north to Syria and South Carolina in the south. The plant’s sweet, carrot-like aroma distinguishes it from dill or fennel.
